Lecture/Concert by Composer-Pianist Artur Avanesov

The recent Drazark Press publication, "ANTHOLOGY OF PIANO PIECES BY MODERN ARMENIAN COMPOSERS," compiled by Artur Avanesov, will be introduced by its author, a bright young star on the Armenian musical landscape, who will lecture in English and introduce Armenian music written during the first decade of the 21st century by young Armenian composers of his generation.

The lecture-performance will highlight the new music trends being developed in Armenia and offer a unique opportunity to experience the tastes and talents of young Armenian musicians living all over the world as they create in the most advanced and avant-garde musical language developed to date and currently in use internationally.

The event is free and open to all. A reception will follow the lecture and performance.

Artur Avenesov was born in Moscow in 1980 and moved to Armenia as a youth. He is currently an Assistant Professor of composition at the Yerevan State Conservatory. Mr. Avanesov has composed numerous chamber, piano and vocal works and has participated in several contemporary music festivals, including the ISCM World Music Days in Switzerland (2004). As a pianist, he has performed some 70 world premieres of piano works by composers from Armenia, Georgia, Germany, Finland, and Portugal. In 2003, he participated in the prestigious Lucerne Summer Musical Festival in 2003 where he performed with an ensemble led by Pierre Boulez. As a musicologist, Artur is co-editor of the Musical Armenia journal where has published articles on the music of Stockhausen and several Armenian contemporary composers. The Anthology of Piano Pieces by Modern Armenian Composers is the latest publication by Mr. Avanesov.
